Conference Hotel
The Graduate by Hilton Providence, originally opened as the Providence Biltmore in 1922, stands as one of the city’s most iconic landmarks. This neo-federal style hotel, designed by the renowned architectural team Warren and Wetmore (famous for New York’s Grand Central Terminal), has been a cornerstone of downtown Providence for over a century. The hotel hosted countless luminaries during the Jazz Age and beyond, while its distinctive illuminated “BILTMORE” sign served as a beloved beacon in the Providence skyline for decades. The hotel’s grand ballroom retains its historic splendor. After its thoughtful transformation into the Graduate Providence, the property continues to blend its storied past with contemporary charm, maintaining its status as a centerpiece of Providence’s rich architectural heritage.

Now in its 32nd year, the Charles M. Hewitt Master Teacher Competition sponsored by McGraw Hill is always a highlight of the annual ALSB conference. The competition showcases the best classroom teaching, particularly the incorporation of new or evolving course subject matter, cultural contexts, pedagogy, and technology. The goal is deeper engagement of students in the learning process and of faculty in their guild.

Providence Crime & Cuisine Tour
The Federal Hill neighborhood of Providence is one of its hottest destinations, home to some of the best Italian food in the world. This add-on tour will give you a smorgasbord of its best bites and drinks, from fine wines to pasta imported directly from the Old Country. Come hungry! Every guest will also get a memento from their time on the Hill to take home with them. Spoiler alert: it’s delicious!
The Hill was also home to some historic characters who dabbled on the wrong side of the law. Follow the intrigue of State v. Patriarca, when a future mayor took on a mob boss; learn about the corruption which brought Rhode Island’s banking system to its knees in the ’90s, and about a raid on an illegal dice game that sent a Providence Police Officer through a second-story window. This add-on tour is available to up to 20 participants and is $65 a person. If more people are interested, we will add you to the waitlist and see if we can add additional tours.
